Free Fitness Workouts

Fitness need not be expensive, and here are a few free fitness tips.

Take a Walk

All you need is a pair of shoes and a place to walk. If the weather is bad, take a jaunt around the local mall.

Take a Trial Class or Get a One-Day Pass

Most studios and gyms will let you try out their facilities and classes if you are interested in possibly joining. Frequently you can get a one-day pass to a gym. Call a gym that you’re interested in and let them know of your interest. Ask if they offer temporary passes for guests to evaluate the gym. You can also so an Internet search to find printable passes for most gyms.

Be a Kid

Get out and run around with your kids. Or just run around like a kid.

Use Your Tax Dollars

Check with your local Department of Recreation and find out about county facilities that are available for public use. Many local governments set aside money to fund public tennis courts, swimming centers, softball fields, and more. As a citizen you can use any of these resources during business hours, though some may require calling ahead to make a reservation.

Do Good and Exercise at the Same Time

Call your local animal shelter to see if they use volunteer walkers to help with the animals. Shelters are often understaffed and need the help of volunteers to properly care for each animal. By donating your time to walk dogs, you give animals the chance to enjoy life outside the shelter and get a workout at the same time.

If you need extra money, you could also look up dog groomers and dog boarders in your phone book, and then make some calls to find out if anyone needs a part-time or contract dog walker.

Check Out the Library

Many libraries offer exercise videos and DVDs for checkout, so cruise over to your local library and have a chat with the friendly librarian.

MySpace: a Pandora’s Box? – Some Tips on How to Keep Our Children Safe
Tuesday 10 February 2009 @ 8:11 am

It is common to come across websites written by concerned parents regarding the dangers of using MySpace. They cite frightening statistics like how MySpace recently booted 90,000 sex offenders from its site.LA Family Examiner – MySpace Evicts 90,000 Sex Offenders from Site. When we look at these statistics it is undeniable that greater parental control is needed in patrolling how children use such sites. But the question is, exactly what should parents do to protect their children?

1. The LA Examiner says that one method all parents should use is to talk to children about internet safety. The site then goes on to say that telling your child horror stories might make them more aware of the dangers that lurk on sites like MySpace. Whilst it is undeniable that parents should talk to their children about internet safety I would argue that telling them horror stories is simply not the way to go. Firstly, this is because from a child’s perspective, exaggerating the dangers of online social networking makes the parent appear hysterical and unreasonable. Children are less likely to listen to their parents if they think that their parents are being unreasonable. Secondly and more importantly, when parents warn children through horror stories, children set a standard of what constitutes cyber stalking or harassment from an unrealistically high level. That is, children will look out for activity that is overtly suspicious but they remain oblivious to the more subtle forms of cyber harassment. A more constructive approach to teaching kids about the dangers of sites such as MySpace will inform kids that cyber harassment and stalking comes in many forms and many of these will be very subtle forms of behaviour. That way kids come to understand that online bullying or stalking is much more than simply meeting a stranger in real life that they first met on MySpace, who will physically hurt them.

2. Another strategy is to always be there for our children. MySpace stalking is less likely to be dangerous if the child can air grievances to the parent and if the child can depend on the parent to help them. Make sure that your children’s profile pages do not contain any adult or violent content, I highly recommend to use the professional MySpace layouts provided by MyspaceMaster.net. MySpace can become a deadly weapon in the wrong hands when a child feels alienated from society, particularly from their parents as they are more likely to turn to strangers for help. On the same token, a parent should encourage face to face social interaction between the child and members of that child’s family or that child’s friends. This way, they are less vulnerable to being preyed upon by lurking strangers and online sex offenders.

One cannot blame a parent for becoming overly concerned about the welfare of their children, especially when it comes to online social networking. What is important however, is to take a constructive rather than a punitive approach in helping children understand the dangers that lurk online.

High school graduation invitations are normally sent to a graduate’s family members and close friends, inviting them for their graduation party. These parties are held in commemoration of the auspicious occasion of a person’s graduation from high school. The party also marks the period a student leaves high school and is ready to enter college, to further their education, thus the high school graduation invitations. This is marked through a formal graduation ceremony, followed by a graduation party. Several graduating seniors who are friends can hold one joint party, therefore sending out the same high school graduation invitations to their family and friends.
