Business Support Systems - Your Family is Key
Saturday 28 June 2008 @ 10:17 pm

Business support systems are critical to your business success. The most important business support system is your family. The spousal relationship is particularly key to your ability to launch and operate a successful business.

If your spouse or significant other is against your business, then you are missing a huge portion of the business support system you need to sustain yourself. Running a small business is a family affair. Whether your family thinks they are involved or not, they are. They truly are the largest source of support your business will get.

Impact of Negativity

If your family is negative about your business then this influence will almost wipe out any other business support systems you have in place. It’s going to be tough for the next couple of months while you get your business off the ground. A strong, positive, encouraging business support system will sustain you through the lows and temper you through the highs.

Negativity, on the other hand, will kill your business faster than anything else. If you are hearing all day that you’re no good, you’re business is crappy, you’re ruining your life, blah blah blah blah, you will go down a black hole with the rest of the business support systems you so carefully put in place.

The Bottom Line on Business Support Systems

You need to have positive business support systems and the main source of this support is your family. If your family is not going to be supportive then the circumstances are not optimal for your launch. Despite all the other business support systems you may have in place, your family trumps them all. Think seriously about where your family rates in your business support system and then decide if now is really the right time to start your business.

Three time gold medal winner Sarah Hammer will be part of this year’s team after taking a brief hiatus last season. Becky Quinn, who has won two silver medals in World Cup competition, will also be a member of the 2006 U.S. team and has shown strong performances throughout the year. Online E-Commerce; Who Can You Trust on the Internet
Friday 27 June 2008 @ 10:10 pm

Much of the online interaction on Blogs, Bulletin Boards and virtual neighbor networking groups is done with at least some anonymity and in watching these communications one has to wonder if anyone is truly who they say. In the case with all the Internet transactions, business dealings and communications these days who can you really trust? We are told we need to be careful with Identity Theft when doing business online or with online e-commerce, but who tells us this?

We are told by agencies like the FBI and FTC; Federal Trade Commission. Both agencies are not without some trust issues in themselves. For instance the FBI has sold secrets to Chinese Sex Spies and the lady was not even that good looking. The FBI misplaced some 2000 laptops they could not find and then lied in court to convict Martha Stewart; not of insider trading but lying to the FBI? Go figure, we the FBI lied to convict someone who they said had lied? Help.

What I am saying here is who can you trust, you cannot even trust the government which is supposedly enforcing all these things. The FTC lied to us about their aggressive fight on SPAM and countless other cases they filed against Diet Supplement Companies, Franchising Companies and even Microsoft. Additionally they prevented Microsoft from controlling their own systems, which would not have allowed people to go online with anonymity and slander others or hide their identity in the first place. Thus, the FTC caused all this mistrust in the Worlds Greatest ever created communication system.

There is definitely some trust issues on the Internet and you have to wonder who you can trust online. Your best bet is to trust no one, as it is safer that way, no agency and some of the companies, which offer a win/win when you get what you want, they get what they want. Make sure you are getting a fair deal and not being lied to or deceived, check up on incoming correspondence and beware of signs of questionable statements and comments or outrageous Public Relations from agencies, Internet marketers or companies. Think on this in 2006.

Your Content for Nothing and Your Clicks for Free
Thursday 26 June 2008 @ 9:39 pm

The first thing my business consultant (read brother-in-law)
asked me, when I told him that I wanted to build a website and
put AdSense on it was, “Do you want to build a site to help
people or to make money?” After thinking about it for a while I
couldn’t imagine why I shouldn’t do both. Why not a website that
helps people and generates money for me? My consultant looked at
me like I had taken one too many falls off my bike, which he knew I road primarily to save on the cost of gas, but he proceeded forward.

“Okay, well what will your site be on?” He encouraged me to think about the things in which I was an expert. That wasn’t too tough.

I’ve spent five years helping people in crisis find drug
addiction treatment. “How about if I help people understand drug
addiction treatment.” Now he was sure I had taken too many falls, and that they had all been while riding without a helmet. More out of pity than duty, he showed me how to use Overture’s bid tool. We put in drug addiction treatment and found that the top bid was for $100.00 “www.customtreatmentprograms.com
(Advertiser’s Max Bid: $100.00)”. My consultant’s mouth dropped
to the floor. “Is that good?” I asked. He just shook his head,
probably wondering why his sister had ever married such a dope.

I quickly learned that the challenge was going to be content. I
could only write so much of it myself, and when he told me that I needed to try and build up to 500 pages - I almost lost interest. He explained about free articles and showed me where to find them, but there was hardly anything related to the subject in the archives. He suggested that I write what I could and consider getting some professional help. Of course, he explained that everything I paid for meant less net profit.

My first attempt at buying articles was a disaster. I found a
freelance site and solicited bids. I negotiated $115.00 for ten
and thought I was doing great. I paid forty percent up-front
figuring that it would help provide motivation for the writer to
do my work ahead of others. When the first four articles came in
there was something suspicious. I found unique lines in each and
googled them, they were all stolen off the net. After spending
hours making sure that I could get my money back, I contemplated
giving up.

But then I had an idea. Frequently, when I needed to learn
something about the latest drug I got it from the government.
That’s when the two sweetest words in my vocabulary became
“public domain”. I decided I would collect the best and most
important information on drugs and drug addiction and build
content rich websites. For a case study of how great this can
work check out www.addictionsresources or www.alcoholismresources I have written some of the content, but more than 85% of it is public domain.

Not all of the public domain material turned out to be AdSense
worthy. That is, not all of it had content that allowed Google to match appropriate ads and I so some pages were being served
public service announcements. Some still are, and looking at the
site will help you see what has worked and what hasn’t.

Can this strategy work for other high paying key words? Consider
these high paying key words and keyword terms: “Home loan” there
are 3,940,000 pages in an advanced Google government search;
“Asbestos cancer” 63,900 pages and mesothelioma 767,000 pages.

Remember it’s good form to credit your source even when it comes
from the public domain. Happy mining.

Internet Speed: Facts and Figures
Thursday 26 June 2008 @ 4:27 pm

I’ve been fascinated over the years by the rapid advances in technology. None more than Internet speed. The Internet is defined: a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computer networks that use the TCP/IP network protocols to facilitate data transmission and exchange .

Speed is defined: the act or state of moving swiftly . When you combine these two, you get Internet speed. High Speed Internet!

Over the last few years the Internet has seen major advancements in the ability of the average Internet user to achieve speeds that could of never been imagined in the days of dial up Internet. According to Nielsen//NetRatings, the global standard for Internet audience measurement and analysis, reports that in the United States there are 39 million, or 13 percent of Americans, connecting via broadband in the U.S., the highest number to date. That number is expected to grow to 61.5 million by 2008.

In Europe the numbers were even better, broadband households in Europe increased by nearly 65% last year, a rate twice as fast as the US. The highest growth was in France, until recently an Internet laggard.

With Broadband provider prices continuing to decrease and subscribership continuing to grow, you can bet that Internet Speed will continue to amaze.

How’s Your E-mail Etiquette
Wednesday 25 June 2008 @ 8:36 pm

In a fast moving global economy, e-mail offers you the convenience of being able to quickly get your message across to your colleagues or clients at any hour of the day or night. The Internet revolution has had the unintended effect of decreasing the use of oral communication and increasing the importance of text - particularly e-mails - as the primary means of business communication. Employees are no longer writing memos to each other; they are sending e-mails.

But are we taking e-mails as seriously as our other business correspondence? Remember, your correspondence says a lot about you, and E-mail etiquette (also called netiquette) not only makes for effective professional communication, but also helps you build a good professional image within your organisation and with clients.

Mind Your Manners

Be conversant with the fact that there are some people who are very sensitive to being addressed by their first names. When in doubt, use Mr., Ms., Sir, Madam or Dr. (if appropriate). When you are replying to an e-mail and the sender of the original message has used his or her first name only, then you could safely assume it’s all right to use that person’s first name as well.

Next, there are three words in the dictionary that are very important to netiquette. People may not notice these words when they’re there, but if you forget to use them, you’ll come across looking disrespectful and ungrateful. These very powerful words are “Please” and “Thank You”.

Don’t Use That Tone With Me

Tone is a difficult thing to explain. Remember when your parents would say “Don’t use that tone of voice with me, young lady (or young man)?” Your feelings come across by the way you say something. It is easy to change your tone when you’re speaking. When you’re writing it’s very hard to do so. Whenever you write an e-mail, you should read your message over several times before you hit send. Make sure that you come across as respectful, friendly, and approachable. And don’t sound curt or demanding. Sometimes just rearranging your paragraphs will help.

If you’re writing to someone you’ve communicated with before, you might want to begin by saying “I hope you are well.” E-mail writers often use emoticons to convey a certain tone. For those of you who don’t know what these are, emoticons are little faces made up by arranging parentheses, colons, and semi-colons. Use good judgement here. If you are writing to someone frequently and share an informal relationship, then emoticons are okay. If you’re writing to a prospective client or your boss, stick to words only. Avoid writing your message using all uppercase letters. It looks like you’re shouting.

And Your Point Would Be…?

When possible, don’t ramble. Be concise and get to your point as quickly as you can. However, don’t leave out necessary details. If providing a lot of background information will help the recipient answer your query, by all means, include it. You may even want to apologize for being so verbose at the beginning of the message.

Plz Don’t Abbrvt.

Never ever use U instead of you, 2 instead of to or too, plz instead of please, and thanx instead of thanks. It’s fine for personal e-mails. Business e-mails should be more formal. Of course, frequently used abbreviations such as Mr. and Ms., FYI (for your information), inc., and etc. are fine.

Spelling Counts… Grammar Too

Use your spell checker. That’s what it’s for. Don’t rely entirely on the spell checker though. If you’re using the wrong spelling for a particular use of a word, i.e. two vs. to vs. too, the spell checker won’t pick it up. A minor typographical error in a lengthy e-mail will generally go unnoticed, but a series of typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors will indicate a lack of professionalism and has the potential to cost you business or maybe even your job.

Use A Descriptive Subject Line

Always use a subject line in your e-mails. Make sure the subject line is brief, but descriptive. Make an effort to keep your subject line to six or fewer words. The subject line is supposed to be brief and summarize the message, and not become the whole e-mail content. You can summarize the action item of e-mail in the subject line e.g., “Tues. meeting canceled.”

Keep Check On Numbers

Be conservative about who you send your e-mails to. Only send it to those who are directly affected by the issue in question. Ask yourself, is this information useful to this person? Is this level of detail appropriate for this person, or should I send them a summary when everyone’s input is gathered and we have come to a conclusion?

Send the e-mail “To” the person or people that you are asking for an answer or action, and be specific about what you are asking of whom. Send a courtesy copy (cc) to those who need to be aware of the request but are not asked to act upon it or respond to it. Double check that you have properly attached documents to avoid sending a second message.

Check messages frequently - at least three times a day. Immediately respond, delete, forward, or save to a folder as appropriate. The more you leave messages sitting in your Inbox, the bigger the chore to gain control again. It is also easy to lose track of an important action item, or message, if you do not keep it organised.

Just like any other type of written message, be aware that it could be forwarded to others or saved indefinitely. Be prudent in what you decide to write in an e-mail.

Include a signature of no more than four lines. Your signature should provide the recipient with a means to contact you other than e-mail, and should mention your designation, company name etc.

For internal communication, it is not necessary to always produce highly organised and precisely worded e-mails. However, etiquette is not totally abandoned in internal communication, particularly when it comes to professional courtesy.

Make A Good First Impression

Though e-mails are less intrusive than a phone call and faster than a letter, first impressions are as important here as any other business communication tool. An e-mail may be your introduction to someone you never met before like a prospective client or new boss or colleague or even a prospective employer. Take your time putting together a well-written message. Once you hit the send button you won’t have another chance.

Chicken Quiche Lorraine With Broccoli Salad
Tuesday 24 June 2008 @ 8:25 pm

Chicken Quiche Lorraine With Broccoli Salad

1 cup shredded natural Swiss cheese (4 ounces)
 1 cup cut-up cooked chicken
 4 eggs
 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
 1 teaspoon salt
 2 cups whipping cream
  teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  teaspoon black pepper
 1 9-inch pie crust

Chicken Quiche Lorraine

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Pour chopped chicken, onion and cheese in pie crust. Beat eggs slightly. Beat remaining ingredients into eggs. Pour into pie plate. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

Reduce oven temperature to 300 degrees. Bake for about 30 minutes longer or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.

Serving Suggestions and Tips: To make it a Mushroom Quiche, add 1 can (4 ounces) mushroom pieces and stems, drained and 1 jar (2 ounces) diced pimientos, well drained, with the bacon.

To make it a Bacon Quiche, substitute 12 slices of bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled, for the cooked chicken. Decrease salt to teaspoon.

To make Crab Quiche, substitute 1 cup chopped cooked crabmeat or seafood sticks for the cooked chicken. Pat crabmeat dry.

To save time, after sprinkling the pie crust with your choice of meats, cheese and onion, cover and refrigerate. Beat the remaining ingredients together and cover and refrigerate. Keep in the refrigerate no longer than 24 hours. Stir the egg mixture before pouring into pie plate. Continue as directed except increase second bake time to about 45 minutes.

Broccoli Salad

1 pound fresh broccoli, stems removed
 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
 2 tablespoons vinegar
  teaspoon salt
 Romaine lettuce
 Dash of black pepper
 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
 Homemade Guacamole (see below)

Heat 1 cup water with teaspoon of salt to boiling in saucepan. Add the broccoli tops. Cover and heat to boiling. Cook for 4 minutes. Then drain. Mix oil and vinegar in 2-quart glass or plastic bowl. Add broccoli tops, salt and black pepper; toss. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Arrange broccoli tops on romaine lettuce just before serving. Top with homemade Guacamole and sprinkle with almonds.

Homemade Guacamole

1 medium onion, finely chopped (about cup)
2 ripe avocados, peeled and cut up
 1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 or 2 green chilli peppers, finely chopped
 1 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
 1 teaspoon salt
1 medium tomato, finely chopped (about cup)
 1 tablespoons of lime juice

Beat avocados, chilli peppers, onion, salt, lemon juice, lime juice and ground pepper until creamy. Stir in tomato. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. To make a creamy guacamole, stir cup salad dressing or mayonnaise and teaspoon garlic salt into avocado mixture before adding tomatoes. To make a bacon guacamole, stir in 2 slices of some crisply cooked and crumbled bacon.

More helpful hints: One package (16 ounces) of frozen broccoli flowerets can be substituted for the 1 pounds of fresh broccoli in the broccoli salad. Rinse under cold running water to separate. Then drain. Also, a name brand or store brand of guacamole dip can be substituted for the homemade guacamole.

Whats In Store For Laptop Computers
Tuesday 24 June 2008 @ 2:01 pm

Notebooks seem to be the current popular thing this year. Manufacturers are trying to keep up with this but have warned that supplies could be limited. It doesn’t seem like anything will obstruct the growth of laptops at the moment. Whatever you do you’re dealing with technology that is shifting all the time so its hard to keep up to date.

I’ve witnessed a growing amount of consumers asking for gaming notebooks. You can actually get a very high spec for your money these days because even the high end technology is slipping into the mass market area very quickly. Gaming on notebooks is indeed a reality now with the breakthroughs in technology. What impressed me the most is how sleek and good looking a couple gaming notebooks are becoming in comparison to the past. Even though gaming notebooks have advanced in many aspects, in relation to sheer performance they still cannot rival with desktops. It seems as if everyone is possessed with creating sleeker, lightweight notebook computers and I’m sure we will see gaming notebooks like that soon.

Custom built notebooks have been here for a great length of time now and regardless of international brands selling pre-built notebooks through stores it looks like there will always be laptop assemblers out there ready to assemble something specific to your desires. I’m partial to the idea that high quality parts go into some custom notebooks. In the majority cases you can ask for all the core parts you require and this is most suited to gamers, professional and power users. The notebooks found in the highstreet are typically configured based standard, mass market customers and well not everyone is average now are they? Power users require custom notebooks for this reason. I think you also get better customer care when getting a custom notebooks. This could be a major seducer to a handfull of niche sectors.

The new mobile technology will be breathtaking. Basic ultra portables are the popular thing. I was not expecting so many people to like the technology. People would like to see large screen ultra portables if that sounds correct. No doubt that companies already have their plans made up. We’re witnessing sleeker gaming notebooks now and it seems this is set to keep on going. Us techies will see something exciting in the next few months that’s a certainty.

I’d recommend http://www.rizeon.com/gaming_laptops/page.php

Are Chat Rooms A Menace To Your Children?
Monday 23 June 2008 @ 4:40 am

My answer would be: yes, with qualifications.

I’ve been running internet chat rooms since 1998, at http://www.tigertom.com/chat_rooms.htm. Nothing fancy. The software was freely available. I just had to make some important modifications: adding bad word filters and automated ‘kicking’ (ejection from the rooms).

You think free speech is a good thing, until you read what anonymous, malevolent young men say to fifteen-year-old girls. It isn’t Shakespeare, let me tell you that.

That’s another key point: anonymity. A pillar of the free speech argument. Let freedom fighters and the repressed masses have their say! Except it’s more likely a twenty-five-year-old sociopath pretending to be sixteen and making young girls cry with his sickening profanity.

Free from all mor©s, and safe from physical retribution, we see the contents of the subconscious pour forth unrestrained. And a hellish stream of psychic sewage it is.

This can be combated by bad word filters and having human moderators. The most important shield of all, I think, is education. “Don’t take candy from strangers”, “You don’t need drugs until you’re ill”, and now: “Don’t bandy words with trolls” (people who deliberately upset other internet users with provocative language).

Most chat rooms now have an ‘ignore’ function. It’s a bit like the hooligan in the street: he’s *looking* for a reaction; if you ignore him, it’s infuriating. To him. You glide on by, figuratively speaking, while he rants on unheard.

Parents should take an interest in what their children are doing online. See if you can find out what service they’ve joined, and join up yourself; get a taste of it. Teenagers define themselves as adults-to-be by choosing a different path to their parents: if you are conservative, they’ll try liberalism, and vice-versa.

Therefore, you shouldn’t try to join in with their activities as an equal; just keep informed.

They may gripe, but secretly they’re glad you care. A parent who lets their child do whatever they want gives them no standard to measure themselves against.

Another problem with basic chat rooms is that you can develop an intense relationship with someone you can’t see and haven’t met in the flesh; there’s a fantasy element. Your thoughts pour forth freely, you believe you’ve met a soul mate. You may even meet them, and the illusion continues …

… until you eventually realise he or she is just a human being after all, and breaks wind like everyone else.

There is hope, however. With the advent of cheap digital video cameras, internet telephony and broadband, people will be less able to hide: “What do you mean, you’re shy? You weren’t shy a minute ago!”. Old-fashioned, sensible prejudices will assert themselves: “Soooo, ‘Zorro’ from Cambridge is really fat, spotty Darren from Dartford … next!”. eap digital video cameras, internet telephony and broadband, people will be less able to hide: “What do you mean, you’re shy? Identify the Signs of Male Pattern Baldness
Sunday 22 June 2008 @ 5:53 am

The correct term for pattern baldness is alopecia. The most typical type of baldness is male pattern baldness and hits usually over a quarter of guys and females. This type of hair loss is ordinarily forever. Visit Advanced Hair Studio and get the latest baldness treatments in the studios or for home.

Permanent hair loss comes in a variety of types. Male pattern baldness will probably occur in the very early stage of a man?s life, with hair loss beginning as early as 20 years old. The normal very first signs will often include loss and baldness of hair surrounding the crown of the head and furthermore at the hairline above the forehead. The result can be partial or full loss of hair.

Female pattern baldness is nearly similar to male pattern baldness resulting in permanent hair follicle loss and baldness. This type of hair loss is naturally developed after a female gives birth to her girl or boy. The chemical imbalance generates hair loss although women do not typically experience whole hair loss.

The last kind of forever hair loss is through Cicatricial. This occurs when inflammation in the scalp causes scarring of the scalp and the hair strands fall out forever and never come back. The women can often lose hair folicles in random parts of the scalp, or even spread all over the scalp.

With forever hair loss the marvellous solution for countless females and males might often be to seek advice from a hair studio in order to gain back confidence.
